Balmy sailing days invariably provide perfect conditions when the classic yachts come out to play in the Mediteranean autumn regatta series. For the past decade Alastair has travvelled from Scotland to witness this remarkable scene first hand. To soak in, not only vivid colours and light conditions but also the heady atmosphere surrounding beautiful yachts - kept in quite exceptional condition - and those who devote a great part of their lives to them. Before 1999 the scene represented here would have required imagination, artistic licence and research in monochrome. In fact a few years ago it would have seemed unthinkable. But now, thanks to the patronage of yachtsmen who wish to create the past in a grand scale, and a burgeoning restoration industry that can recreeate the nessecary skiolls, the artist can follow two international 15m racing yachts jousting head to head from the press launch. More restored 15 metres are expected to join this remarkable fleet in the near future. The artists's inspiration will never be in a short supply.
